Safeguarding & Child Protection

The Child Protection Policy sets out how we discharge our statutory responsibilities. It forms part of a suite of policies and procedures developed and operated by the school with a view to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children in the broadest meaning, namely protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of health and/or development, ensuring that children grow up in the provision of safe and effective care and taking action to enable all children to have the best life chances.

Attendance Policy

There are many positive benefits to be gained from regular attendance at nursery. This includes not only coming to every session but also being there on time. Good attendance and punctuality are important for all children.

Behaviour Policy

The ethos at Hillview Nursery School is to respect and value each child and their family as individuals. All the children are encouraged to learn through play in groups and individual activities. Within the Nursery School environment we have clear boundaries and expectations for all the children to work towards. Our behaviour policy is based on respecting the children’s individuality. When dealing with children’s behaviour we take into consideration the behavioural differences that come from cultural and religious backgrounds and the different learning styles and behaviour of boys and girls.

British Values

We are an inclusive setting and our ethos and curriculum enables children to be independent learners, to make choices and to build strong relationships with their peers and all adults. Our setting believes that children flourish best when their personal,

social and emotional needs are met and where there are clear and developmentally appropriate expectations for their behaviour. We would challenge pupils, staff or parents who expressed opinions contrary to fundamental British values

Charging & Remission Policy

Hillview Nursery School believes that all our pupils should have an equal opportunity to benefit from school activities and visits (curricular and extra curricular) independent of their parents’ financial means. This charging and remissions policy describes how we will do our best to ensure a wide range of visits and activities is offered and, at the same time, try to minimise the financial barriers which may prevent some pupils taking full advantage of the opportunities.

SEND Policy

All children are treated as individuals. The teacher and staff plan an appropriate differentiated curriculum to ensure high quality teaching and learning with effective support and resources. Pupils are assessed using entry assessments, observations, well-being and involvement levels and EYFS profiles. Where a child appears not to be making progress either generally or in a specific aspect of learning, the teacher will take steps to provide different opportunities or alternative approaches to be used.

Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions

Local Authorities and schools have a responsibility for the health and safety of pupils in their care. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 makes employers responsible for the health and safety of employees and anyone else on the premises. In the case of pupils with special medical needs, the responsibility of the employer is to make sure that safety measures cover the needs of all pupils at the school.
